During this period we made a round trip in southern and western Uganda, starting from Kampala. The route include Mpanga Forest – Malamigambo Forest, Sango Bay (near the Tanzanian border) – Ruhija where the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park begins – Bunoyni Lake – Kalinzu Forest – Kasese – Nyakalengija, Ruwenzori Mts. – Matiri Forest – Hoima – Budongo Forest – Mabira Forest – Kampala – Entebbe.

Most nights we camped on campsites run by the Ugandan National Forest Authority. O’lei Safaris provided tents with thick mattresses, big tent for cooking and protection from rain, camping chairs and table. A generator ensured power and light. We drove in a Toyota Landcruiser 4WD, that tackled all the difficulties roads on the route. Our driver, Joseph, was not only an experienced driver, but also functioned as a guide with great knowledge of the places visited. He was accompanied by the cook, who prepared exce-llent meals under all kinds of weather conditions.

The trip was successful thanks to good planning, appropriate equipment and skilled staff. It gave the two undersigned a unique experience of Uganda’s fantastic unspoilt nature. We do not hesitate to recommend O’lei Safaris to tourists wishing to “make” Uganda.
